An A Song of Ice and Fire re-read podcast focused on the female pov chapters. Here we’ll discuss what it means to be female in the World of Ice and Fire, what that does to the individual psyche, and how that translates across class, age, and geographical location. The read will consist first of the female point-of-view chapters of each book, rounding each book off with a critical look at one central male character’s chapters, with the hopes of also examining how the strict gender roles of their society effects even the most well-intentioned of characters. Episode 10 : Daenerys III (AGOT chapter 23)
This week Court and Mike join Dany as she travels across the Great Grass Sea, learning many new lessons along the way. As Viserys' tyrannic grip on her begins to slowly wane with each passing day, her marriage to Drogo sparks darker thoughts than she's ever had before, and she begins to seek comfort in her new surroundings. Jorah, the walking maester's tome, schools her in geography, while Irri, Jhiqui and Doreah help her puzzle out the true origin of dragons. She also celebrates her fourteenth nameday.
